On Wednesday, millions of people marched through Tehran to honor senior military officials killed in the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran that began Feb. 28.

The funeral was held at Engelab Square, one of the symbolic spaces of the Iranian capital, where citizens chanted “NO to surrender” without fear and defying enemy bombings in the vicinity of that location.

Attendees chanted slogans as the flag-draped coffins of 11 senior military officials passed by, including Revolutionary Guard commander in chief Mohammad Pakpour, Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi.

“NO surrender, NO negotiation! Fight against the U.S.!” millions chanted in unison, repeatedly also singing “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!.”

The funeral became an awe-inspiring demonstration of support for the new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

Among the crowd, his images and those of his predecessor and father, Ali Khamenei, stood out. The elder Khamenei was killed by U.S.-Israeli bombings on the first day of the conflict.

“We are not afraid of the enemy’s bombs or war. It would be an honor for me to lose my life supporting the Islamic Republic and its new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei,” said Sama, a 36-year-old housewife.

Giant posters with the faces of Ali and Mojtaba Khamenei hung from buildings and lampposts, while banners with their photographs were held aloft by attendees chanting slogans in support of the new leadership.

“We will not yield an inch to imperialism. We will continue fighting firmly to the last drop of our blood,” Mahin, a 60-year-old woman, said.

The ceremony took place under heavy security measures, with military and police forces and armored vehicles in the vicinity of Engelab Square on the 12th day of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
